Question
I am studying for a test and one of the problem has an x with a vertical arrow and the infinity sign next to it.  I understand what it means when the arrow is horizontal means.  I hope you can understand this.  Thank you very much

Answer
Hello Kate,

Wow, a test already!  Didn't classes just start?!  :-0

Anyhow...

Is the vertical arrow pointing up?
I gather it must be...that is odd to see though!
I believe it is used to mean that x is approaching
infinity from "below" - i.e. from smaller to larger
values.  Which is really noy necessary to indicate,
since we only approach infinity from that direction
anyhow!

Perhaps tell me the rest of the problem or exactly
how it is being used, and I can help you further.
