Question
hi i really need alot of help. Im a college student from so cali. i have a test on wednesday. im in business calc and i have problem and i wonder if you can help me.  i have the problem f(X)= X squared+x using the formula F(X)-F(x+h)/h. i know that the answer is 2x+1 but i dont know why. please help if u can. thanks et

Answer
Hello "et"

OK, we need to take the limit as h-->0 of [f(x+h)-f(x)]/h
first let's do [f(x+h)-f(x)]/h, to get:
[(x+h)^2+(x+h)-(x^2+x)]/h
=[x^2+2hx+h^2+x+h-x^2-x]/h = [2hx+h^2+h]/h
=2x+h+1, now let h-->0 to get
=2x+1

OK?  Good luck with your test!
