Subject: To move or not to move..to Calgary

Question
Hi Ralph. My husband has an opportunity to relocate with his company to Calgary.(from wpg)I think it would be a good move for his career, but we have not yet made our decision. I am not sure which part of town to search for houses. We have a young family, and I realize(just like every city) there are bad areas. We would appreciate some advice on the different areas of the city. The suburbs are also an option,I suppose. We are looking to spend in and around 300k.Thanks in advance.

Answer
Laura:
First let me congratulate you on the choice.  You did not state what position you and him are in? I.e. technology-Desktop analyst, Doctor? Receptionist?  As far as work, since 1978, I have always been employed and my skill set allowed me to transfer from job to job. What I am saying is, there always seems to be work here, if you want to work and are flexible and not set in a mindset, ie I am a Senior Geologist in a certain style of work, so if work becomes slow, you (in the right mindset) would change to a different field using similar skill sets, you might transfer to a mining area etc.  Where to live, I suggest SW or Northwest. Please send me more details, in private, click yes.

Send me more details and we can talk, even by phone if you send this.
Laura:
Congratulations and I hope the decision you make is for your long term not short term. Moving Provinces is not an easy one, but can be quite positive. I am happy, my parents moved us here, in 1978 from Quebec. I am successful, because I live here, not in Quebec. Calgary is the greatest city in Canada and has the Calgary Flames!!! YEAHHHH, (had to do this, sorry).
Moving, first I suggest you do a 1 week, exploratory trip
then think about what you see. We are friendly here, more than any where else.
Then make arrangements to get all your documentation in order.
Read my answers on choosing a mover in the previous answers section.

Thank you,

Ralph
