Question
i have an RV and really want to stay on the beach somewhere near San Diego.  Safe would be good :)  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Checked out Campland on the bay but it does not look like it is on the beach.  Thanks

Answer
Hi Tammy,

Campland on the Bay is, as it's name implies, on Mission Bay. It doest have a small beach, and some beachfront sites. However, there are no waves, which is a big draw for us.

If you want beach camping near San Diego, you have San Elijo and South Carlsbad, which are on the bluffs above the beach. You also have Chula Vista RV park on the south part of Mission Bay, but once again, no waves.

You should check out Doheny State Beach, in Dana Point, in southernmost Orange County. It's on the beach, and has plenty of things to do in the area.

Avoid San Onofre, unless you like trains 10 feet from your campsite, drunken surfers, highway noise, and border checkpoints.

San Clemente is worth checking out. Like San Elijo and South Carlsbad, it's on the bluffs above the beach.

All of these (except for Campland) can be found at www.reserveamerica.com.

Have fun!
