California/tent trailer rental / camping in Big Sur

Hi Steve,

My family of 4 (2 kids under 3) is planning on renting a tent trailer and going somewhere near Big Sur for a week this summer. Any suggestions on locations / hiking trails / tent trailer rentals (still renting yours?) ? We live near the LA airport.

Just for the record, I have a 31 foot Class A RV. I've never had a tent trailer. But I still rent it out.

As for locations in the Big Sur area, you can go to the state parks at reserveamerica.com (Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, or Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park), or stay at one of the private campgrounds like Big Sur Campground and Cabins or Fernwood. http://www.bigsurcalifornia.org/camping.html

There used to be a company in Ventura that rented tent trailers, but they went out of business. There's not a lot of demand except in the summer.

Hiking in the Big Sur area is incredible. I haven't done enough of these to truly appreciate it (I seem to be stuck on Yosemite), but it is spectacular nonetheless: http://www.bigsurcalifornia.org/hiking-trails.html
