Question
We are a family of four travelling from Australia to the US.  We are planning hiring a car in San Fran and driving to Lahoe and staying for a week.  Then we have twon days to get to Las Vegas via Yosemite.  As we are travelling in April I know that the Toiga Pass will be closed.  Is that too much driving for our kids.  Should we just spend two days in Yosemite and fly to Vegas from Fresno or are we missing too much scenery?
Thanks,
Meg

Answer
It would be recommended to take a day or two away from Tahoe and put that time into this planned trip from Tahoe to Las Vegas via Yosemite.  You are right, Tioga Pass will be closed, so you have to enter Yosemite from the west side at either the Big Oak Flat or El Portal Entrances.  Check Mapquest.com for specifics on these possible routes.  I think that Yosemite is better than Tahoe (unless you are skiiing), and in April, the water falls are really lovely.  But, April is early spring, and it's hard to say what to do.  Good luck!
