California/beach camping/pop up
Expert: Steve Summers - 5/23/2008
QuestionHi Steve, Living in Scottsdale, studying at Agape in Culver City for summer. Considering a pop-up for myself and 2 girls (6&4). They'll go to Agape day camp with me. Is Dockweiller the only beach park? Do they allow pop-ups? If I am only in Tues to Fri. is there anywhere close to store it over weekends? Any other suggestions? Peace and Blessings!
AnswerHi Kelly,
Dockweiler is the only beach RV park in LA County. It's run by the county. I'm not sure about the popups. One line from the rules makes it seem like they may not: "Park entrance only allowed to RV’s
carrying the RV Industries approval registry number and manufacture’s
date."
There aren't many campgrounds in the area, due to the high price of LA real estate: Doheney State Beach in Dana Point, Bolsa Chica Huntington, and Leo Carillo State Park in Malibu. Each of the three allow tent trailers, but are a considerable drive to Culver City.
Store it? IF you can even take a pop-up into Dockweiler, and IF they aren't already booked the entire summer (as I expect they are), it would be much easier to leave it there. Are you going to drive back and forth to Scottsdale each weekend? That's too much! And if you do find a public storage place, they don't rent on just the weekends, it's by the month. Your only choice is to leave the trailer parked and hooked up, even if it means paying for days you won't be there.
I would say your only shot is to try calling Dockweiler to see if they have availability, and if they allow tent trailers. 800) 950-7275 or (310) 322-4951. The reservation service is open 9:00 AM TO
4:00 PM, Pacific Time, Monday through Friday.
You might also try Anaheim RV Village, by Disneyland. It's inland, about 36 miles from Culver City. I know they rent long-term, and there are places available last time I drove by.
Good luck!
