Question Steve,
I have been surfing the internet for the past couple of days and I am having a very hard time finding what I am looking for. My boyfriend and I are flying in from Chicago to San Diego at the end of August and we were looking for tent camping on a nice beach (close to the OCEAN). Most of the places I have been finding are for RV's that are by the bay? We were going to bring our tent or rent one there, but we wanted something that isnt completely secluded from the town because we wont have a car. We were looking for a place with a very nice beach, surfing not too far? Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks so much.
Answer Hi Aleksandra,
There are a number of beach campsites, close to surf spots. The two that come to mind are San Elijo State Beach, on the bluffs above the beach in San Diego County (right next to Swami's), and Carpinteria State Beach. Carp is my all-time favorite. It has gentle waves, which are good for learning, and it very close to Rincon Point, an excellent surf break. It has a great little town that you can walk through, as well.
Other tent camping places incluse South Carlsbad State Beach, Doheny State Beach, San Clemente State Beach, El Capitan State Beach, and Refugio State Beach.
