California/Overnight parking

Question
Hi Steve;

I am in San Jose Ca, and I am heading to Las Vegas for my July 4 vacation.   My wife wants to see Universal Studies for a day so we are looking for the easiest option to add this time to our trip.    If I drive my RV from Redlands (friends house) to Universal City, is there any place to boondock overnight so I can drive and park the RV at the Studio for the tour and a day of fun?    I looked for a RV park but the cheapest would add 65 bucks to the 1 day excursion.     Also not sure how convienent it would be to pull in the night before, stay 12 hours and roll to the studio in the morning.     After the tour and theme part adventure would be heading towards LV to do our normal vacation.    Just looking for any suggestions.    Not sure if the local WalMart is open to RV's close to the Studio, that is always a boondocking option for overnight parking.

Answer
Hi Randy,

Unfortunately, the streets around Universal are some of the busiest in the city. Parking lots are clearly marked, and the Parking Nazis patrol with a vengeance. Universal itself is clealy marked as a "no overnight zone". There is a Wal-mart in Duarte, which should be safe enough for an overnight stay, is at 1600 Mountain Ave. From Redlands, take the 10 west to the 57 north, then take the 210 west to Mountain. Turn left under the freeway, and you are there. In the morning, take the 210 west. When it changes to the 134, keep going west. Exit at Lankershim, turn left, and look for the Studios on the left. You will have to go up a hill to get to the parking lot, but if the Studio shuttle can do it, so can you.
