Expertise
I was born and raised in Los Angeles. I`ve lived in the Valley, west side, east side, and South Bay, so I`m an expert on getting around town. I`m knowledgeable about all of the Southern California tourist attractions. I am also an expert on state beaches in Southern California, and have an expansive camping background. No relocation/moving questions, please.

Question
hi steve, my family and I wanted to have a holiday in los angeles, las vegas and san francisco but wondered if there are any suitable places to stay with a campervan (motorhome) in these areas? we are coming from london.

Answer
Hi Priscilla,

There are a number of RV parks and resorts in these areas, but not in the city center. The most difficult will be Los Angeles, since the RV parks are few indeed, and over 30 miles (48km) downtown Los Angeles.

If you've read some of my posts, you know I have an RV and have traveled quite a bit in the area with it.

You can go to rvparks.com to get a listing and read reviews. Here are my recommendations:

San Francisco: Olema RV park (north of the city) or Pacifica RV Park (south). Pacifica is on the bluffs overlooking the ocean, and you can take BART and MUNI into the city. San Francisco has excellent public transit.

Los Angeles: Newport Dunes is an excellent park, but quite expensive. They even have shuttles to Disneyland, I believe. There is a park at Dockweiler Beach, which might be closest. There is alo another at the Pomona KOA.

San Diego: The best place to stay is Campland on the Bay. They have shuttles to Sea World. Oh, that wasn't on your itinerary. Oh well, still a great place to stay.

Las Vegas: I don't recommend this in summer. It get's over 100 degrees Farenheit, which is blistering. If you do go, there are a number of luxury resorts. I've seen the RV resort at Sam's Town, which is 6 miles from "the Strip"

Post a follow up if you have any more specific questions, I'll be glad to assist.

Cheers!
