Question Hi Enerst,
I will pass my holidays in the west coast with my boy firnd for 19 days, travlling from los angeles to las vegas throught the mational parks and arrive in san francisco. We were thinking to rent o camper van 17 or 19 ft. do you think is more expensive than rent a car and sleep in motels? and also is it posible to contact private that rent camper, because all the rental society that I contact has no available camper for two peopleł
thank you
Answer Hi Elisa,
I'm going to guess that you and your boyfriend are relatively young and able to do some rustic tent cabin accommodationsn from time to time, and maybe even car camping to save on motel costs. Fortunately, the National Parks and California State parks offer some of the best car camping facilities anywhere, including plumbed showers and toilets in many campgrounds. A few places, such as Camp Curry in Yosemite, and Big Basin, in the Santa Cruz Mountains even have tent cabins that are very comfortable and still close to nature. There are also motels everywhere. The problem with motorhomes is the price of fuel, as well as the rent price. At best these vehicles get 10 mpg, with gas prices being above $4- per gallon, a 200 mile trip, which will be routine for California, will cost $80- in fuel alone. These vehicles are not pleasant to drive, and are NOT GREEN. Do other travelers and you boyfriend a favor and rent a sports car for the mountain and coastal highway curves. Plan for hotels in advance online, and choose to camp from time to time to enjoy nature.
