Question
I'm planning on coming to Venice beach in early August to sell beach wear on the boardwalk. I have a sellers' permit from the BOE. How do I go about setting up there and where is the nearest safe place to tent camp overnight and what is the price? I'm looking to be in the area for several weeks. I would like to be able to return late night if need be in order to sample the night life of the area, so maybe a hostel is in order. If that's what you recommend I need the same info as for tent camping.
                                          Thanks, Greg

Answer
Hi Greg,

Setting up in Venice Beach can be very dangerous. Some of the venders there are rather unstable. I'm not sure what the BOE is.

I do know you need a permit. Check out the rules: http://www.laparks.org/venice/pdf/ProgramRules4_02_08.pdf

Are you sure you want to do this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zi5nBIgtA3A

There is no tent camping overnight nearby. The closest is way up in Malibu at Leo Carrillo State Park, for $20. Your best bet is to just stay at a local hostel. Venice Beach hostel (www.venicebeachhostel.com)is nearby, and $19 and up.

Night life in Venice Beach is REALLY scary, since that's when all the lunatics come out. Santa Monica is OK, but Venice Beach at night is really creepy.

Good luck!
