Question
Greetings,
I am looking for a lake close to Carlsbad that I can take my family. I have kids between 3-5 years old, and would like to do a day trip to a lake/recreation area, where the kids can swim and play. Thank you

I'll assume you are referring to Carlsbad, California, which is located midway between LA and San Diego, off I-5. This is a challenging question because the only lakes in this region are mostly man-made reservoirs devoted to drinking water supply. Calavera Lake is one of these, providing some fishing and hiking trails, but I couldn't find any family swimming here. I recommend you do what families usually do in this region--go to the beach. Could you better define your needs for me?
