Question
Hi Steve, have you heard any reviews good or bad about the Sheraton in Anaheim. Also for young people in their 30's is it worth visiting disney land? we were going to get the southern city pass, of which 3 day park hopper is included.

Finally, from Anaheim to Universal Hollywood, how long will this take us to drive in the morning, will the route be easy for first timers to do in a hire car?

Finally, sorry, what is a reliable and efficient car hire company at LAX?

Thanks Steve, have a good New year.

Answer
Hi Dan,

The Sheraton in Anaheim is certainly nice enough. It's not as luxurious as other Sheraton hotels, but everyone agrees that the rooms here are quite large, and the beds are comfortable. (Some people opine that the bathrooms are small, but who spends much time in the bathroom?) I do have a couple of caveats about this hotel. Make sure that you request an interior-facing room, because some rooms face the freeway, which is rather noisy and busy. Second, they advertise that they are right next to Disneyland. Yes, that's true. They are directly across the street from the BACK of Disneyland, where there is an employee entrance. However, the front entrance is a good mile walk. That's not a big deal at the beginning of the day, if you wish to walk. However, it's a big deal at the end of the day. The good news is that they have a shuttle to take you to the front of the park. That mile is a lot shorter in a shuttle! Also, you are VERY close to the fireworks, about 100 meters. They can be quite loud. They go off each night at 9:25, weather permitting, so keep that in mind. Some people love it, but for others it loses its appeal quickly.

I won't say how old I am, but I have kids aged 6 to 23. My wife and I go to Disneyland on date nights because we're passholders and we love it. So if you like Disney, it's worth it. It's very nice to see all the parades, fireworks, shows, and restaurants. If you don't mind splurging, eat once at the Blue Bayou inside Disneyland. Actually, it's inside the "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride at Disneyland. You should definitely call 714-781-DINE to make a reservation. Also, be sure to see the Aladdin show at the Hyperion Theater, which is a very good Boradway-type show.

From Anaheim to Universal is about 35 miles. However, it takes about an hour or so during the morning rush. It's easy enough to get to: Take I-5 (the freeway right next to the Sheraton) north towards Los Angeles. When you get close to downtown LA, take the 101 north, then take the Universal City Drive exit, which is about 7 or 8 miles north of downtown. Easy enough, but lots of traffic.

My two favorite car rental agencies are Hertz and Enterprise. Take a look at their web sites or give them a call, and you'll be fine.

The SoCal City pass is a great deal, especially if you take advantage of the Sea World and San Diego Zoo tickets.

Have a great time!
