Question
Hi Steve!

I was just booking an RV site (KOA at Pomona), but was told that all of September is completely booked due some sort of "fair".
I was sure we wanted that site, but now have to look for something else.
Can you recommend a site - we basically just need a safe site, preferably with some shuttle service or possibility to easily go to LA (Hollywood/Sunset Blvd/tour of the stars homes etc) and back again.
We plan on staying 2 nights so we have one full day in LA.

Thanks very much in advance !

Answer
Hi Morgan,

Sorry that you could not reserve the Pomona KOA. The Los Angeles County Fair is the largest county fair in the United States, and runs for 3 weeks. We can't even get a reservation, and we live about 15 miles away.

There are a couple of sites that are nice. The trouble with Los Angeles is that it is so BIG, and land is so expensive. The Pomona KOA is about the closest RV Park to Los Angeles, and it is about 30 miles from downtown LA. Unfortunately, there is no shuttle running from these RV parks into Los Angeles. There are bus lines like the Metro, but they are really slow. Either way, it looks like you will have to drive your RV into LA/Hollywood.

The closest RV park is called East Shore RV Park, located in San Dimas (very close to the Pomona KOA). You can see it and make reservations at www.eastshorervpark.com. If East Shore is also full, another RV park is Canyon RV Park, located in Anaheim Hills. You can check it out at www.canyonrvpark.com.

If you want a good tour of LA/Hollywood, check out Starline Tours at www.starlinetours.com. They have many tours to suit your needs. You can drive into Hollywood and start your tour there. Allow 90 min. to 2 hours to drive into LA. Traffic is terrible.

It sounds like you are doing the RV tour of California, which a lot of folks like to do. However, have you thought of reserving a hotel room in Hollywood or near Universal Studios? The extra money might be worth the trouble.

Have fun!
