California/RV Rental

Question
Hi Steve,

My family and I are looking to rent an RV next September in California.

We are British and have International Drivers Licenses, but all of the RV rental companies have requested a binder from our insurance company. This is not possible as we don't have a US motor insurance policy.

Please can you advise me how people from outside the US can arrange insurance cover to rent an RV?

Kind regards
David

Answer
Hi David,

I was going to refer you to the company that rents my RV, www.americanrvrentals.com, and tell you to rent the Springer 2003 Storm. However, the rental agency tells me that they only offer collision insurance.

I would rather that you have a safe trip. Here in California, there is a great RV Rental company called El Monte RV. You could go directly to their site, www.elmonterv.com, and find a nice RV. They offer full insurance.

However, they told me that you would have a much easier time of things and get a better deal if you contact their partner in the UK, Judith McNickle. Her contact info is: Mike Brunnel Associates, LTD, AKA MGA International. Phone 1483-440-480. Email judith.mcnickle@mga-international.co.uk.
I was told that they can make all the proper insurance arrangements, and are obviously closer, which will allow you to avoid currency exchange, etc.

I have a couple of things I would like to ask:
-Let me know how they work out. I get quite a few international inquiries.
-If you have any questions about places to go, or campgrounds, I can provide answers in that area as well.
-If you are going to Disneyland, you MUST email me and let me know when you are coming. My family has annual passes, and 2005 is a GREAT time to go visit. Disneyland is having their 50-year anniversary, and the park is beautiful. Everything is freshly painted and looks fantastic. I can give you some great tips, and meet if you like somewhere at the resort. September is a great time to go, since the weather is nice and the crowds are gone.

Have fun,

Steve
