California/Weather in LA in late September

Question
Hi Steve,
I am from Australia, and have never been to the US.
But thi syear I am going to be in LA in the last 10 days of September and I was wondering what kind of weather to expect.
Is it still summer and hot? What kinds of temeperatures are typical? Is it humid?
Basically, do I just pack 20 singlets (and 1 jumper just in case)? Does that sound right?
Cheers, Ania

Answer
Hi Ania,

September temperatures average 83 degrees Farenheit in September, and you can sometimes get considerably warmer. We usually have a heat wave in mid or late September, then the weather cools down for good the first week of October or so. The best thing to do is to check out a good weather site like Intellicast.com just before you leave and get the extended forecast, just to make sure we aren't going to have an early cool spell. If you are going to be staying near the coast, be prepared for fog in the morning, and cooler temperatures than downtown LA.

Have fun,

Steve

I was born and raised in Los Angeles. I`ve lived in the Valley, west side, east side, and South Bay, so I`m an expert on getting around town. I`m knowledgeable about all of the Southern California tourist attractions. I am also an expert on state beaches in Southern California, and have an expansive camping background. No relocation/moving questions, please.

I have lived in Southern California my entire life. I'm a "local", with expert knowledge of Southern California. I've done a lot of extensive traveling to NorCal, so I can provide answers about northern California as a visitor, and southern California as a local.

Not that this matters, but since it's required, I have a Bachelor's Degree. I also have a Master's Degree in the University of Life.
