Cameras/Canon shutter problem.

Question
I sent the following question to the Canon help line: My Canon Digital Rebel camera (6.1
Megepixle) shutter button has become to sensitive. I used to be able to press the button
part way down to focus, then stop compose etc. Now the time/distance between getting
focused and taking a picture has disappeared. It's very difficult to focus and NOT take a
picture. Canon said sorry your shutter is broken, send it to this address to get it repaired.
I was hoping for a fix or work around that I could do. I'm sure the repair would be more
than the value of the camera. Any suggestions?  thanks,

Answer
Actually, in this case I would think the repair would be that bad.  It's just the switch that is bad.

I don't have an old rebel to play with, so I can't verify this work around.  Check in the menu an see if you can set the auto focus to work on the custom button instead of the shutter button.  It will probably be in the custom function menu.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.
