Answer

Hello Sherri,

I have to apologize because there's been some major confusion here!  I've been receiving messages about many old cameras from ANOTHER person named Sherri, and at my request she began sending images to my personal e-mail to make things easier.  Then when I kept getting messages here from YOU, I thought it was messages from HER!  So I kept "rejecting" those messages and telling "Sherri" to continue sending images to me directly and not to AllExperts.  Okay, are you confused right now?  Perhaps, but certainly not as confused as I've been!  Anyway, the other Sherri finally figured out that something wasn't quite right, and NOW I realize that you're a completely different person.  Holy cow!

So, looking at your list of cameras, there are probably only three items that have significant value:

"4-Leica dbp, Ernst Leitz gmbh, Wetzlar Germany, M3-855371, summarit lens"

"8-Leica-meter m, made in Germany, summarit eleitz wetzlar lens, nr. 1098599, has a checkered metal thing on left top hanging out, kinda heavy camera"

"9-Exakta vx Thagee Dresden, Biorar 1:2 f=58 nr.4845862 c.z. jena, inside camera has vx 787383"

What I suggest you do is send pictures of those three items directly to me at <silver@well.com> so I can see what condition they're in, appraise them, and then make recommendations on how best to sell them.  The other seven items are low value, maybe $20-$30 each, but I'll see what I can do about finding a buyer for those as well.  Once again, I apologize about the confusion.  Who could have known that two different Sherris would contact me at the exact same time?  Wow!

Best wishes,

David Silver

Expertise

I'm an expert on all types of antique, classic, and contemporary cameras, as well as the general history of photography. Everything from ancient box cameras to modern single-lens-reflex; from simple Kodaks to sophisticated Leica and Nikon; from glass plates and roll film to movie and 35mm. I can identify and appraise them, explain how they work, and offer insights on their restoration and care. I can also provide historical background on vintage cameras and equipment, and guidelines on their purchase and sale.

Experience

I've been a professional photographer and a student of the history of photography for nearly 30 years. During that time my collection of vintage cameras and photographic paraphernalia has grown beyond 2000 significant pieces. I've published nearly 70 articles in the field, including 16 in the popular "Buying Classic Cameras" series for PHOTO SHOPPER MAGAZINE from 1995 to 1997, I'm currently a contributing editor for CAMERA SHOPPER MAGAZINE and McKEOWN'S PRICE GUIDE TO ANTIQUE AND CLASSIC CAMERAS, and I've written numerous entries for WORLD BOOK ENCYCLOPEDIA. Portions of my collection have been displayed in museums and special exhibits in the past two decades, and many of the items were photographed as illustrations for books. In 1985 I founded the International Photographic Historical Organization (InPHO), which eventually evolved into its intended purpose as the best first resource for information on the history of photography. I'm also a founding member of several e-mail forums dedicated to specialized areas of photography, and I'm the moderator of the Internet Directory of Camera Collectors (IDCC), which remains the largest and most successful such group in the world.
