Question
When I turn the camera on it says access on the screen, then it starts beeping and says "turn the camera off and then on again."  I do this and the same thing happens.  This happend once before, and I went to a troubleshooting web site and it was suggested that I take the camera in one hand and smack it into the other hand.  Which I did.  It started right up and has been working fine until now.  The above solution doesn't seem to be working.

Answer
Bernard,

Hi. That "smack it on your hand" fix was only a temporary one and probably actually made the problem worse in the long run.  What you probably have is some kind of open circuit.  When you smacked it on your hand it probably closed.  Now it simply won't close any more....  in other words it broken all the way now.

If your camera is under a year old, it will still be under warranty.  Send it in.  If it's older than a year (and you don't have some kind of extended service contract), it's probably time to buy a new one.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.
