Cameras/File number not start from zero

Question
Hi Abe,

I have bought a new Nikon D300 about two month ago(here in Taiwan). I noticed that the assigned DSC file number did not start from zero but from 7XXX(for now it's over 8000). Any possibility that I might have bought a used "new" camera?

Thanks in advance and best regards,

Answer
Hello Ning,

If you were using an existing memory card that you already owned, chances are this is the reason that your file number did not start with 0. If the camera was used, the date and time zone probably would have already been changed. If you were asked to assign values to these categories, your camera is probably new.
