Cameras/Flash drive vs. hard drive storage

Question
Hi Gary,

I am in the process of buying a video camera. It comes down to a choice of hard drive vs. flash drive as all the other features are the same, although the weight of the flash drive is slightly less but the storage capacity is also slightly less. My question is what are the advantages of a flash drive over a hard drive system and is it worth an additional $300?

Thank you for your help. I am an expert on this site in another area and I know how much you help all of us. I appreciate you volunteering.

Answer
Hello Gary, Since flash drive memory prices are falling I would go with the flash drive. Portability and isolation from electrical issues are big reasons to go with flash. As I have always recommended a copy made to DVD/CD media for safe long term storage, makes for a great secure.safe. long-term arrangement for data.
Hope this helps.
