Cameras/N70

Question
QUESTION: Would you please advise how I may advance film in a Nikon N70 without exposing the film? I have a roll of film that was partially exposed and then rewound back to the beginning. I now wish to expose the rest of the film by advancing through the previously exposed film without making double exposures.
Thanks,
Tom

ANSWER: Hi Tom. Easy one...

Put the camera in manual exposure and set a high shutter speed.  Change the auto-focus to manual focus.  Put the lens cap on.  Put your hand over the view-finder eyepiece.  Now fire the camera the desired number of times.

QUESTION: John,

Follow up questions:

Now I've really done it. In trying to follow your suggestion I've managed to lock up something so that the shutter won't fire at all, with or without film in the camera. The film counter remains at number 1, also with or without film in the camera. Any ideas about what I may have done and how to cure?

John, I should explain I haven't used my camera equipment in a couple of years and just recently got it all out again to refamiliarize myself with it in anticipation of a photo trip to Africa. (Leaving two weeks from today.) To avoid buying more lenses for the N70, I also got out my old Nikon FE and am thinking about taking it too, with the idea of using it along with a Nikkor 70 X 300 zoom and a doubler for those really long shots of the animals. I've done this before and it worked resonably well. The problem is I've forgotten how to make the correct exposures with this set up. That is, neither the doubler nor the zoom have an aperture ring. I know (or think I know)I can't use my FE's automatic features, so how do I make correct exposures with this set up? I experimented with a couple rolls of film by changing the shutter speed to match the fixed aperture but so far everything's been badly underexposed.
Thanks,
Tom

Answer
Tom,
I can't imagine what you could have done to the camera. Have you checked the battery?

You're not going to be able to effectively use a lens w/o an aperture ring on the FE.  The auto mode on the FE is actually an aperture priority mode. They way you were trying in manual SHOULD work.  But it will be a major pain only having one aperture to work with.  Don't know why you were getting underexposure.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.
