Question
I was given a Canon A-1 with several lenses.  Everything looks and seems to work well with one major exception.  When checking the camera body without a lens attached, the metering works well, the shutter works well, and all seems OK.  If I attach any of the three lenses (all FD's), then nothing works and there is an EEEEEE message in the window.  I have changed to a fresh battery and still get the same result.  Is there some basic remedy I am missing?

Thank you!

Answer
Not sure about this one.  Could be the aperture ring/mode combination.  Some cameras require that the aperture be at its smallest setting (f22 or f32 for example) when the camera is in auto.  Try that or try setting the camera in manual if it is in auto.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.
