Cameras/canon rebel Xti flash problem

Question
I saw your response to this question dated 2007 regarding the error message I get when I try to use my flash and its not opening and not taking a photo on manual settings.
Can you tell me how to open the top manually? How to fix the problem? Or do you recommend sending it in for fixing to the company? I'd like to do it myself if at all possible as it costs a lot for them to repair.
Thank you for your help.

Answer
This kind of repair takes a very steady hand and some experience. While it is do-able following the manual schematics from Canon, it is up to you and your pocketbook$$$. Perhaps an upgrade would be money better spent? Or buy a used one on Ebay even better? Good Luck sorry it is a tough decision. Gary
