Question
Hi John,

Thanks for offering to answer my question.  I have had a Canon A95 for a few years.  I love it, particularly the swivel LCD.  A couple of days ago, the LCD quit working only when framing a shot.  Pictures I have taken can still be seen on the screen, it is only dark when framing a shot.  Is there a fix for this that a lay person can do, or is it best to just plan on getting another camera?  If so, do you know of other swivel LCD cameras I might look at?  Thanks for your opinion, and your time.

Answer
Paul,

Is it possible that you simply turned the LCD off?  There should be a button marked either "disp" or with a display symbol; a square inside of brackets.  If this is not the problem, then the camera is broken and will have to be replaced.  Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone doing a camera the size of your A95 with a swivel screen.  At least not at that price point.  Canon does a couple of higher end cameras that have it though.  The SX20 and G11.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.
