About John Oliverio
Expertise
I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.

Experience
I'm an "expert" under photography. I've many years experience in photo retail.John and Chris

Cameras - Which SLR Camera model is better for me

Expert: John Oliverio - 11/2/2009

Question
Hi,

I am interested in taking shots with an SLR camera. Currently I have a digital compact camera. I want to buy an SLR digital camera, and start learning and taking shots. A friend suggested Canon EOS Kiss-x3 (which I believe it is the name in Japanese market).
As you are an expert, what would be your suggestion for a beginner like me to start with? My budget is around 1500$.

Thank you in advance.
Mehdi

Answer
Mehdi,

Honestly it really doesn't matter too much.  The Canon is a fine camera.  But the SLR's are all good machines.  Just go in knowing how much you want to spend and play with all the cameras in your price range.  Which ever one you like best...  well that is the best one.

If you start to worry about the quality of one vs. the other, please consider all the great pictures that have been taken over the last 70 years with very primitive cameras.  It isn't the camera that is important, it is the photographer.  And any SLR will give you all the tools you need to grow.

John
