Cameras/Nikon 6006 Shutter Release

Question
I have a 6006 where the shutter release button no longer seems to function.
It started as an intermittent problem.  Once in awhile I could get it to try and
focus, and once in awhile I could get it to actually release the shutter.  Now I
can't get to release at all.  It is not a weak battery, and it happens with two
different Nikon lenses.  There are no error codes, the aperture lock is on, and
the light meter is functioning.  Could this just be a bad switch that I could
repair myself?

Answer
Gary,

Hi. Thanks for the questions.

Well, I would say it is very probably the switch.  It could just be dirty.  I don't suggest you try and repair it yourself. Unless you are just good at taking things apart.  You would be amazed at how hard those things are to get into.  You usually end up breaking some critical bit of plastic that holds the whole thing together because there is a specific order you have to follow in taking these things apart.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.
