Question
John,
I was trying to purchase a camera as a gift for regular photography. I could not decide between Canon SD 990 IS and Canon SD 970 IS. The 990 model seems a little more expensive but has 14.7 megapixels. However, its overview doesnt seem to be that great.... unlike 970 which has 12.1 megapixels but has HDMI/ HD movie and other stuff. Now Im not sure how these things work but I dont wanna get a camera just coz of the high megapixels if it lacks important features. Which would be a better camera? Thanks a lo for your help and here is the link I refered to:

Answer
Sona,

This may not make any sense, but the 970 is a newer than the 990.  I personally would rather have the newer machine.  Also, there isn't a practical difference between 12 and 14 million pixels. They should have stopped at 6 million for pocket cameras.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.
