Question
Hi John. Not sure if this is up your street, but you might be able to help, or put me in touch woith someone who can please.
My Sony handycam CCD-TR303E won't draw the tape cassette down when I shut the loading flap in. However the tape draw will go down with no tape in? Any ideas please.
Thanks.

Answer
Hi Rob,

About all you can do is try a different tape.  Hopefully your tape is bad.  If it does is with another, the door mechanism is faulty.  These doors are complicated little monsters and are usually one of the first things to fail on an older machine.

You could probably get it fixed but I would strongly suggest that you get a new one instead.  Repairs usually start around $100 to $150.  You could buy a new Canon digital video camera that uses a memory card to store video for $250.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.
