Cameras/battery contacts rusty

Question
I was on a backpacking hike in a heavy downpour and my olympus -750_WHILE IN MY BACKPACK got wet.  No submersion in water but the battery contacts have rusted so I can't check if anything else is amiss and wonder if repair on a camera at least 3 years old makes sense.

Answer
Cleaning battery contacts shouldn't be that expensive.  But don't let them do anything else.  If it requires any other service, it would cost more than the camera is worth.  You could also try and clean them yourself.  If the corrosion isn't too bad, you could try cleaning them with a pencil eraser or an exacto knife to scrape the rust off of the springs....  (if it has springs which are the hardest to clean).  You don't have to get all of the rust off....  just where the battery makes contact on the top.

Good luck.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.
