Question
Hi John,
I am completely ignorant on camera's and lenses for them, my husband past away a few months ago and he was our camera expert in the family I have no idea what to sell one of his lens for or even what kind it is? Zoom, fisheye, ect.I was hoping you could help, I went on ebay to research but no luck, he had a canon 35mm film camera but I do not know much more than that, his brother kept the camera and he is now in the service serving our country in the middle east so I can't ask him, as much as you can tell me I would greatly appreshiate. I have photos of the lens, but I don't see a way to send them to you, The lens reads " AUTO SEARS MC 300mm 1:5.6 58 100101 199.730730" hope you can help a camera ignorant person! Thank you, Tracy

Answer
Tracy,

Your lens was distributed by the Sears Dept. store.  It would sell now for around $20 or $30.

-------FOLLOW-UP-------

I'm sorry you feel I shorted you on your answer.  But on re-reading the note you wrote, I can only find one question I didn't answer.  And that is that your lens is a tele-photo.  I guess since you wrote that the lens was a 300mm I assumed you knew that.  But out of all the things you wrote, there were only two actual qestions and I can't imagine what else you would want to know about it.  You know it goes to a Canon, who distributed it and its value.  I've been a volunteer on this site for 6 years, have answered 1469 questions in this catagory alone and been nominated 211 times for expert of the month.  And I can't remember ever getting rated so low.  Once again I'm sorry you feel the way you do.  Since you are not happy with me, you may want to try a different volunteer.  I think David Silver is next in the number of questions answered in this catagory.  I don't know if there is anyone ahead of me or not.  You can find him listed in the same place you found me.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.

Experience

I'm an "expert" under photography. I've many years experience in photo retail.John and Chris
