Question
I want to buy a digital. I like most of the write ups about the Canon a70. What are the reliability of these cameras. I have a Minolta maxum 7000i and never had any problems with it.( about 7yrs old)I read that there seems to be a softness in the Canon a70 photos? Is this a problem only in large photos(8x10)or do all the pictures come out like that? In a quandary HELP! Craig

Answer
Craig,

Well, you have to understand that you can't fairly compare the A70 (which, by the way has been replaced by the A75) to a camera like the Maxxum 7000.  There is a considerable difference in lens quality.  A fair comparison would be the 7000 compared to a Canon digital Rebel.  The A70 is just a point and shoot.  Compared to other cameras in its class, the A70 is fine.  There were some issues with defective cameras, but most stores replaced them, without question.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.
