Hi John,

I'm in the market for a digital camera and have read some literature on the various features, etc.  I know you can't advise what camera I should buy, but can you give me any tips of what to look out for in features of one brand vs. another--in other words, is one brand better for certain applications, etc.?

Thank you,
Maureen

I'm sorry, but your question is kind of vague.  Since you didn't narrow the scope of your question I've only got two ways to answer.  I could write a huge reply covering every type of camera and brand and what they are each particularly good at.  Or I could simply say "yes", certain brands are good for certain applications.  Please be more specific.

John

John,
Think I need to some more "homework" before I pursue this.  Thank you for your assistance--I may call on you again when I know a little more about the various features of the different brands.

Answer
Ok Maureen.  But if you need any help trying to figure out what class of camera you are shopping for, I'll be glad to help you out.  Because on reflection I think that is what you need to figure out.  Don't worry as much about brand.  Try and figure out what "type" of camera you want first.  Then you can compare the different brands.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.
