Question
QUESTION: Hey John,

I am not sure if I've approached the correct individual but I'd like some advice on purchasing a camera. I've decided to jump on the bandwagon and get myself a digital camera but I have absolutely no idea where to begin. I simply want the equipment necessary to take clear good quality photographs. I would probably classify myself as a social photographer, I enjoy capturing special moments and want a camera that will be easy to use and not too intimidating.
I am in my 20s so I've got no excuse not to embrace the digital age really. Oh and I am based in UK (in case that affects your recommendations). Hope you can help!

ANSWER: Are you looking for a small point and shoot camera or something you can change lenses on?

QUESTION: I guess a 'point and shoot' would be most accurate, as easy to operate as possible.

Answer
Well, there are tons of good cameras out there.  But at the moment I'm fond of the Canon Powershot Elph series.  In some countries they are called IXUS.  My choice would be one with an image stabilizer.  But there are several in the series to choose from.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.

Experience

I'm an "expert" under photography. I've many years experience in photo retail.John and Chris
