Question
Thanks for your reply.  My camera is a Kodak EasyShare model DX6340.  That would be great if my current camera would do!

Question -
I am trying to take closeup pictures of jewelry for personal inventory purposes and my digital camera which was in the $300 range doesn't provide a clear picture even on the closeup setting.  Is it possible to get an inexpensive digital camera that can take clear pictures at less than 6 inches?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Answer -
Kaylene,

Yes, you can get a camera that can do that for around $150.  The Nikon Coolpix L4 would work.  But are you sure yours can't do it?  What is the make and model of your camera?  Perhaps I can help you set it up properly.

Answer
Kaylene,

Unfortunately since your camera is an older model, I don't have one on hand to give you the exact steps to set it up for macro.  However, I found that its close focus is good to about 10cm (around 4 inches).  Somewhere on your camera should be a little symbol that looks like a flower.  It may be on a button on the camera, or in the cameras menu.  Turning this on will allow you to use the macro mode.  I should say that kodak isn't known for having a great macro setting, but with 3 mega-pixels to play with, you've should have some room to crop and zoom even closer once you've got the image on the computer.  If this machine doesn't do the job, you may want to try something like the Nikon I mentioned.  It will go to 4cm (1.57 inches).

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.
