Question
Dear John,

I have got SONY DCR-TRV70K and a notebook (Celeron 1GHz) with USB cable. Would it be enough to load a recording from a tape to the PC and edit it without losing its quality? I tried once, but the quality is very bad (like web-streaming video).
What do I need in order to make a good quality amateur video?

Thank you very much in advance.
Sincerely yours,
Batsuren

Answer
Batsuren,

Hello. Thanks for the question.

You can't do good video with USB.  You must use firewire (IEEE 1394) to download.  Your notebook should have the right port....  it might be called iLink on sony, but I'm not sure.  And you will need the proper cable.  You should be able to get one from most camera stores or a Sony dealer.  The cord is about $15 USD.  Take your camera with you when you go so they can pick out the right cord.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.
