Question
John
Thanks for your reply to my question. I am considering the Kodak Z700 with 5X optical zoom and 4X digital zoom.
I am currently using an old Ricoh with 3X optical zoom and it does well on closeups. It has some problems so am considering a new camera.

Answer
Bill,
The Kodak has a 10cm close focus.  This is fairly normal, but not that great.  You may want to consider something like the Nikon coolpix 4600.  Its close (macro) focus is only 4cm.  Much better for detail work.  I've seen this camera for around $180.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.
