Cameras/Lense adaptability

QuestionJust to make sure I understand your response: The lenses (wide angle, telephoto and standard will fit but I need to purchase the lens kit. Is this like an adaptor or only useable for the wide angle and standard lense? Many thanks.

I have a Canon EOS Rebel with three lenses, two of which are probably not Canon lenses. Want to upgrade to the Canon EOS XT digital. Will the non Canon lenses be compatable? Thanks.

Chris,
Yes, they will work. But I suggest you buy the 18-55 lens kit and not just the body. The old 28-80 you probably have is really no good on a digital camera.

AnswerSorry. When I said you should purchase the lens kit, I meant when you buy a camera, you should not buy "body alone" but that you should get the camera with the standard kit lens. When you bought your camera it came standard with a 28-80 (or 35-80 depending on the year your bought it) lens. On your camera that amounted to a wide to moderate tele-photo. That was fine for a camera that used film. Unfortunately any lens you put on a Canon digital camera become 1.6 times more powerful. Which means that your wide-angle lens suddenly isn't all that wide. Instead of a 28-80 you'll have a 45-128. Not a very usefull focal lengeth. The lens that comes with the digital Rebel is an 18-55 which is actually a 29-88 after the 1.6 conversion. Which puts you back in the wide-angle ball park. A lot of folks buy the body alone to save some money thinking the lens they have will be fine. Just about every time I've sold to someone like that (I try to explain but they think I'm just trying to get more money from them) they've come back and bought the lens later. Of course when you buy the body and lens seperately it ends up costing you about $50 more.
I hope this made everything clear. If not, let me know.
