Question
I bought a 35 mm camera at an estate sale. It is a Minolta 3000i.  It came with a 50mm lens. I want to purchase another lens-what kind would you suggest?  I want to take pictures of my grandchildren mostly.  Some people say buy a telephoto and use it for everything...some people say get a 28-80mm lens.  Can you help?

Thanks.

Answer
These days a 50mm lens is unusual.  It was common untill the late 80's when all the camera makers started giving you the 28-80 with the camera instead.  So you could get away with the 50 and a tele-photo 70-300.  Many people do.  But you might find the wide-angle on the 28-80 handy in the house.  I'd probably start with the tele and try and get the 28-80 later.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.
