Question
whatis the different between canon powershot sd500 and sd550 beside the series number. why is sd500 is less popular than sd500? is there  something wrong with it? why it is  not a popular choice at main electronic stores such as circuit city or bestbuy or ritz camera?
thanks

Answer
Carolyn,

The reason that the 500 doesn't seem as popular is because it is last seasons model.  The 550 is the replacement.  There is nothing wrong with the 500.....  actually it's pretty much the same camera with a few minor upgrades.

The upgrades are as follows:

550 has a 2.5 inch LCD where the 500 has a 2 inch.
The 550 uses SD and MMC cards... the 500 only SD.
And the 550 added one language it can use to the menu.  I think the 500 has 21 languages and the 550 has 22.  I don't know what language is...  I only speak English.

Picture quality between the two cameras will be the same.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.
