Cameras/transfer of photos

Question
I own two Olympus cameras, a D-550 and a C-750.  I was using Jasc photo paint shop 5 with no problems with either camera in transferring photos.  I have WIN XP SP 2. Corel (who took over Jasc, I'm sorry to say)offered a newer version which I bought, thinking it would have more features (they actually removed two of the best, but that's another story).  The first thing the program said that the C-750 had to have the WIA (not terrible familiar with that but if that made the program work, fine) and I downloaded it to the camera from the Olympus site. I did not load it to the D-550 (thank goodness) and this camera works fine, but the C-750 now when attempting to load the photos, comes up with a screen stating USB, PC or "print," and another line for exit which tells you to shut off the camera, which of course does not allow the transfer.   I have worked on it for several hours and have gone back to Jasc and managed to get a transfer of photos using the "print" function line, but now they are listed as read only, and each has to be opened up individually in a second file, and the first file erased later on the program.  In addition, the program will no longer erase any photos on the camera, it has to be done manually.  The Corel program has been ditched since it also would not let me burn a CD of previous photos and several CDRs went in the waste basket.  It also lost the database so the old pictures were deleted! I use a USB connection which, before the "WIA download" from the Olympus site, worked fine with Jasc.  I now have a useless new program, and difficulty with a camera that I like. I edited a couple of lines in the device manager, removing semi-colons (advice obtained from other sites), but that didn't help.  While I can get my photos, I wish I could go back to the way it was as the transfer simply went smoothly, delivered all the photos and not just one at a time and could erase the card.  I am sorry to be so lengthy in this question but it has been a frustrating experience.  (I also now cannot find the website from Olympus that had the WIA download.) Is there any way to  remove this download?

Answer
Well, basically the answer is no.  Even if you could hack the camera yourself, you can't simply remove the new software.  You'd probably have to send it back to Olympus to get back to the way it was.  (if they will even do it)  And here is a little more bad news.  As far as I can tell, you shouldn't have even needed that WIA download.  I've never even heard of a WIA driver for Olympus.  Olympus has been using MASS storage (usb auto connect) since 2000.  Here is the link to the old driver, but I don't know if you can reinstall it on top of what you did or not.  You should call Olympus to find out.

You could try and reinstall it but I wouldn't.  If I were you, I'd just get a memory card reader and not download from the camera anymore.

Expertise

I can answer questions about point and shoots and 35mm SLR`s from the 1960s to present. I can also handle most questions on digital cameras from "camera" makers, like Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Sony, etc. Though usually I`m not too familiar with the driver interface, as 3rd party devices for download are more efficient. Sorry, but I can no longer answer questions about the value of old cameras.
