Question I think this may be out of your league, but I have a question about debt. I have student loan debt in the US. I am a US citizen, but have lived in Canada now for 10 years. Are their any agreements between Canada and the US for debt collection? What can the US do to me here in Canada to collect the debt? Who could answer this question?
Answer There is a tax agreement between Canada and the US with regard to income taxes, IF you owe money to the United States government then it MIGHT apply and there might be reciprocal agreements between State governments and Canada. My personal suggestion is "let sleeping dogs lie". You could also call in the States whomever you owe the money to (don't give your name or anything) and ask the question. One thing I might worry about is entering the United States especially if the debt is owed to a government agency.
