Canada - Government Information/Visa for Canada

Dear Mr. Morson,

Me and my boy friend wants to marry in Canada as he is holding Canadian citizenship and our friendship is based on 14 years. How can our situation help us to obtain a visa to marry there? Ca his invitation helps us for providing TRV to Canada. How can your services help us for this?

Dear Sanam,

Thank you for your question.

I don't want to discourage you, but the chances of getting a Temporary Resident Visa to marry in Canada are very slim indeed.

Canada's immigration rules place a very heavy burden on visitor applicants to prove that they are coming to Canada for a temporary purpose. Most applicants who intend to visit Canada with a view to marrying their boyfriends or girlfriends are likely to be refused.

You might be better advised to marry in Pakistan first and then start the immigration process under the spousal category. However, you must remember that even that category has considerable hurdles that must be overcome if the application is to be approved.

I may be able to assist you, but I would need more information. I suggest your boyfriend contact me directly in Montreal via my email address:

I know this is not the answer you were hoping for, but I hope you will understand the importance of managing the risks and the high costs that would come from badly conceived visa applications. I'm only trying to spare you unnecessary grief and expense.

Very best wishes,

Tim Morson, RCIC*
