Question I am writing for A friend. His Father was born and raised in Canada. As A young man he moved to the U.S. and Faught in WW2 After he became U.S.citizen "Duel" Can his son become Dual Citizin? Thank You for your time. Susette,
Answer First of all I am NOT a citizenship expert, but I do know some general rules.
1) If son was born in the USA and birth NOT registered with the Canadian government (embassy in Washington) answer is NO to dual citizenship
2) If son born in Canada answer is probably yes.
3) If son born in USA and birth registered answer again is possibly yes (current age of son may have some impact).
Also be careful as I believe US law does not recognize dual citizenship, though Canada does.
