About David Chanter
Expertise
I have a MA in Political Science and have worked or visited every province and territory in Canada. I work for the federal government as a Media Monitoring Officer where I scan everyday all the major newspapers in Canada. I would be pleased to answer questions on: Canadian politics (federal and provincial); Canadian geography; and, life in Canada.

Question
This may not be your area but know one is available under Canada law.

I am a 53 yr old female.  Green card Canadian citizen living in USA / Detroit area for 25 years.

I have come upon hard times.  Not working, no health insurance.  I have diabetic problems and many other health problems that are getting worse.

I am looking into disibility because I am getting so that it is hard to drive with dizzyness.  numbness on my left side etc.

I have a brother who lives in Windsor Canada,
I would like to move back to Canada.  Do you know how long I would need to live there in order to be seen by a doctor under health Canada.

Right now I am in an apartment that I just have been able to get the rent paid but I do not know about next month.

Thank you,
Chris.

Answer
The administration of our health sytem is a provincial government reponsibility.  In your case, I assume you will be moving to Ontario.  You will need to obtain an OHIP card (Ontario Health Insurance Program) and suggest either you or your brother call the local office in Windsor.  As far as how long a wait before you can get a card goes, I could hazzard a guess only, but would not be surprised if the answer was six months after establishing residency in Ontario BUT I COULD BE WRONG!
