Expert: David Chanter Date: 11/7/2006 Subject: Throne's right over Canada?
Question Is it true such as it is in England, that the Throne of England can abolish Parliment and the Prime Minister, if they so should choose, being that the Queen is still Head of State according to the Canadian Act of 1982?
Answer LOL, yes and no. Symbolically yes the Queen of Canada or her representative, (the Governor General) could abolish Parliament and dismiss the PM. But practically and by precedence the answer is NO. The British Civil War of the early 1600's (Oliver Cromwell) established, once and for all, Parliament's supremacy and the resolution of the King/Byng crisis of the 1920's here in Canada firmly established the principle of the supremacy of Canada's parliament over the Governor General.
In short, the answer to your question is technically YES, in reality the answer is NO.
