Question
QUESTION: What does it mean to be the " reserve list" in canadian football and do you get paid if you are put on it?

ANSWER: CFL teams have smaller rosters than NFL teams.  To help make up for that, the teams have a "reserve list" or "practice" roster - up to 4 extra bodies that are allowed to practice with the team but are not regular players.  While on the practice roster, the players typically make $500 per week.  When moved on to the game roster, their regular salary would kick in.

QUESTION: Hey would a 5-11, 290 lb. defensive tackle have any chance of getting into the CFL? Thats my size right now and I was wondering if I would get totally overlooked when I tryout because of my size. I heard the defensive lineman in the CFL tend to be a little shorter that in American football?

Answer
Hi Matthew,

You're correct that CFL DTs are often smaller or lighter than NFL ones.  If you're 5'11", you would need to be quick.  If that's the case, by all means, try out.  If not, you might want to lose a little weight and aim for a different position instead.
