About Geoff Wickens
Expertise
I am an avid fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders (real fans bleed green!) and have been since 1964 (ever since I was born in Kinistino, SK. If I don`t personally know the answer to your question regarding any CFL team or player, I will take great steps and find the answer for you... after all, this is where you come for specific answers to your questions, not for referrals to web sites where YOU can find your answer!

Experience
Avid fan of the CFL and truly believe that our game is better than the NFL... why does it take the NFL 4 downs to do what the CFL does in 3? And what is with this "fair catch" rule? It's football... the players are SUPPOSED to get tackled!! We also have larger fields, our league has been around MUCH longer than the NFL.

Canadian Football - metric terminology

Expert: Geoff Wickens - 8/31/2007

Question
What is the metric equivalent of the term "yardage" as use in American football.

Answer
I can tell that you have not watched a single CFL game in your life.

We use yards up here too.  We also use the phrase "3rd and inches" .. which is the same as your "4th and inches"

A CFL field is 10 yards longer (110 yr field) and is 5 yrds wider (55 yards wide).  Our endzones are 15 yards deep, not the NFL's paltry 5.

Our game is more wide open that an NFL game .... a score of 35 - 30 is not uncommon.  The highest scoring Grey Cup (the "equivilant" of the Super Bowl) is at 83 points in 1989 (The Grey Cup game has also been around since 1908 as compared to the Superbowl which started in 1967).  Average yard passing in a game .... 300+  Rushing ... 200+.

And that's with 1 less down that in the NFL.

I hope I have answered your questions and provided a few more that you anticipated.  please .... watch a CFL game one time and see what all the excitement is about.

You know why CFL fans are so cocky ... we have bigger balls (CFL football vs an NFL football)
