My father (Joseph Wesley Devitt) served in the 253rd Infantry Royal Highland Bn., 1914-1919.I would like information about this unit and other Canadian units that served in France during WWI. What were the casualty rates for the Canadian Expeditionary Forces that fought in France during WWI?
Answer -
A total of 619,636 men and women served in the Canadian forces in the First World War, and of these 66,655 gave their lives and another 172,950 were wounded. Nearly one of every ten Canadians who fought in the war did not return.
Thank you for the statistical information about Canadians who served in World War I.  Is it possible to find out more information about the 253rd Infantry Royal Highland Battalion's participation in WWI, like when they went into combat?
